New Plan for Baton Rouge Schools Designed to Help Struggling Students

West Baton Rouge parish students to get five weeks of summer enrichment

One
of the latest efforts to help Baton Rouge students keep up in their studies is
the new program in West Baton Rouge parish schools known as Summer Enrichment
and Technology Camp. This is a five week class for children who will be fourth
graders in the fall, and is designed to help students who are just short of
basic competency.

The Advocate reports on
the
hopes for this program for Baton Rouge students:

[School Superintendent David] Corona hopes the plan will help
these students not only retain what they learned the previous year, but will
also help them get a head start on the new academic year.

He said he hopes that will mean better academic progress come
fall, better grades, and better scores on standardized tests.

If this
Baton Rouge schools program shows good results, it is expected to be expanded to
include more students.
