USS Kidd Major Part of This Year’s Baton Rouge 4th of July

All-day 4th of July festival includes the storied warship

One
of the main parts of the Baton Rouge 4th of July celebration is the storied
warship, the USS Kidd. Much ot the festivities surrounding the 4th of July in
Baton Rouge include a run between Casino Rouge and the USS Kidd, as well as
tours of the World War II destroyer. And, later, reports
The Advocate,
the show involving the USS Kidd gets really interesting
:

At 6 p.m., the music takes a half-hour
break, and an annual feature of the downtown celebration takes place when a mock
aerial attack is made on the USS Kidd by vintage World War II aircraft. The
attack includes explosions in the Mississippi River representing near misses on
the ship, which fires its 5-inch guns in
defense.

But the main event, of
course, is the fireworks display. “Fireworks on the Mississippi” begins at 9
p.m. And you can get tickets to view the show from the deck of the USS Kidd for
six dollars.
