LSU to Get Live Tiger Mascot from Indiana Facility

Mike the Tiger to come from Great Cats of Indiana

When Mike the Tiger, the LSU live mascot, died earlier this year, school officials began the search for a new mascot. Now, they think they might have found him in a rescue facility in Indiana. The Advocate reports on the new LSU live tiger mascot:

“Yes, it’s true,” said Rob Craig, Great Cats executive director. “We have talked with LSU, and we anticipate we’re sending a tiger there.”

Once all the details are finalized, Craig said he anticipates a formal joint announcement with LSU. But until that time, Craig said, he cannot comment any more on the specific tiger chosen from the Idaville, Ind., facility.

PETA has protested replacing Mike the Tiger with another LSU live mascot, but officials insist that the mascots are well treated.
