New Autonomous School Opens Its Doors in Baton Rouge

East Baton Rouge Laboratory Academy

Baton Rouge schools offer a variety of opportunities to local students. And one of the newest schools is the East Baton Rouge Laboratory Academy, which opens today. It is a new autonomous school in Baton Rouge, acting as a sort of hybrid between a charter school and a public school. It is one of two new Baton Rouge schools that aims to help kids in danger of dropping out of school make it to college. The Advocate reports on how an autonomous school in Baton Rouge works:

Like charter schools, autonomous schools operate with
more freedom than traditional public schools. Unlike charters, they are
closely connected with school systems. They also receive money
comparable to other public schools, but are expected to supplement
through private fundraising.
