Weathering a Recession

Tips for Baton Rouge homeowners

One of life’s inevitiabilities is that at some point the economy will go into a recession. We are on the brink of that right now, and even the five year mortgage rate freeze may not be able to stop it from happening. However, there are some tips that Baton Rouge homeowners can employ in order to help them get through a recession:

  1. Start now to plan. Cut back on non-essential expenditures and redo your budget.
  2. Emergency fund. Set aside some money each month to build up emergency resources for a rainy day.
  3. Get out of debt. Pay down as much consumer debt as possible, so that your obligations are at a minimum.
  4. Re-allocate your portfolio. Looke at your investments (including your retirement fund) and think about shifting the balance in favor of blue-chips and other solid stocks. Also realize that when the stock market is down is a good time to buy.
  5. Consult a financial professional. Consider seeing a financial advisor about what you can do to shore up your finances. Just make sure you look for a fee-based financial professional, rather than one that works of commission.
