Bobby Jindal Takes Office

First Indian-American governor takes office in Baton Rouge

Yesterday marked the inauguration of Louisiana’s new governor, Bobby Jindal. Many see him as a beacon of hope, and he does have a lot on his plate as the state continues to recover from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The Associated Press reports on this historic occasion:

Jindal, a former Republican congressman, won more than 50 percent of
the vote in a primary election to make him Louisiana’s first non-white
governor since Reconstruction and the nation’s first Indian-American
chief executive.

Jindal also aims at ending corruption in Lousisana state government and bringing accountability to Baton Rouge.
