Public Housing in Old South Baton Rouge

Baton Rouge continues to improve the housing in Old South Baton Rouge

HOPE VI, a program that upgrades public housing in Old South Baton Rouge, says construction will begin Monday, May 12, at the corner of Highland Road and Mary Street.

The project will take it’s first step by removing old gasoline storage tanks. The cleanup was granted $58,696 by the Environmental Protection Agency, who chose this location for cleanup. The location was used by a former automotive maintenance, tire, and detailing shop and is now vacant.

According to EPA: Grant funds will support quality assurance planning and cleanup planning and activities, such as the removal and disposal of concrete and soil. Funds also will be used to conduct community outreach activities. which recently recieved a grant from Environmental Protection Agency

HOPE VI will host a project meeting at the location at 9 a.m. Monday and is open to the public.
