Baton Rouge concerned with Recycling and Going Green!

Last November, Mayor Melvin Holden asked Baton Rouge to recycle, recycle, recycle! And the residents of Baton Rouge listened.

Mayor Holden’s efforts proved successful after a recent report showed that each Baton Rouge household recycled more than 3 ½ pounds (per household), causing a 16.4 percent increase in overall recycling collected.

Baton Rouge partnered with the Curbside Value Partnership to launch an educational campaign named “Cart IT! Create a Recycling Tradition in Baton Rouge” encouraging residents to step up their recycling and reusing. The campaign was promoted through billboards, bus shelters, library displays, a combination of paid and free PSAs in local newspaper, radio and TV media outlets. After the campaign was launched in 2006, Baton Rouge saw an overall 51 percent increase in it’s recycling and reusing.
