In Louisiana a bill has recently been passed banning smoking in Public Places, currently legislation exists banning smoking in restaurants. According to WAFB “State Senator Robert Marionneaux, D-Baton Rouge, has proposed a bill to also ban it (smoking) in bars, casinos, and outdoor patios attached to them. It’s similar to the bill passed in a House committee Tuesday to ban smoke in all public places. It is different because it allows exceptions for cigar bars and hookah lounges. Marionneaux’s bill now moves to the Senate floor for another vote.” A great step for the health of smokers and non-smokers alike in Baton Rouge Louisiana.
Another proposed bill that is hitting the floor is a bike bill, meant to protect bicyclists from motorists. In the same article at WAFB.com, “State Representative Michael Jackson, I-Baton Rouge, has proposed a bike bill that has now passed out of the complete House. It would require drivers stay at least three feet from all cyclists and fund an awareness campaign to teach drivers about sharing the road with bicycles. The penalty for driving too close is as much as a $250 fine. The bill passed out of the House floor Tuesday night without any objections and next moves to a Senate committee.” This bill is intended to make the roads safer for Louisiana residents who bike, making the roads a safer place.
