Baton Rouge is currently home to two schools who received blue ribbon status from the Department of Education. Sherwood Middle School, a Baton Rouge magnet school, and St. James Episcopal school were named Blue Ribbon schools because of their ability to help their students achieve academic success. Sherwood Middle School is the only public school in the area to be awarded a Blue Ribbon school and there are only 7 Blue Ribbon schools in the state of Louisiana.
