The First Time Home Buyer Tax Credit has been a fantastic incentive and bonus for those purchasing homes in Baton Rouge but the new extension and expansion of the tax credit is even better.  Not only can first time home buyers reap the rewards of the tax credit but now people who have owned their home for at least 5 years and want to buy a new home can get up to $6,500 at closing.  The new tax credit will be in effect until the middle of 2010.  If you are looking to buy real estate in Baton Rouge and take advantage of the tax credit you must be under contract to purchase by April 30, 2010 and close on your property by June 30, 2010.  Income restrictions do apply, an individual cannot make more than $125,000 a year and a couple cannot make more than $225,000.
