Museum in Baton Rouge Offers Lunch Break Lessons

The Louisiana State Museum has a wonderful program underway for people who work in downtown Baton Rouge. The program is titled “Lunchtime Lagniappe” an offers information on local history. The talks take place on Wednesdays at noon. The Baton Rouge museum designed the talks specifically for workers taking a break. This is a great opportunity for Baton Rouge residents to learn more about the history of the area and its people.

“Lunchtime Lagniappe” is a free program and the museum encourages people to bring their lunches and are aware that people will come and go according to their schedules. If you work downtown in Baton Rouge this series is a wonderful offering for you to enjoy.

Mardi Gras is a fun time of year in Baton Rouge LA

It’s the Mardi Gras time of year again in Baton Rouge LA and there is a lot of fun to be had, not the least of which is family fun. Tomorrow, Sunday February 7th, is the Addis Volunteer Fire Department Mardi Gras Parade, which will start at 11 am. The best family parade is historically the Krewe of Southdowns parade and it will be happening in Baton Rouge next Friday, February 12th. The Krewe of Southdowns parade starts at 7 pm.

Birders Count in Baton Rouge LA

Birders in Baton Rouge LA can participate on two annual bird counts

Birders in Baton Rouge are getting ready to count birds on January 2nd. The Audobon Society is currently conducting a bird count, to track migration patterns, breed counts and . The annual Christmas Bird Count began on December 16th and will run through January 5th, with different areas having different official days for their observation. Hand in hand with the Christmas Bird Count is the Winter Bird Atlas count, which gives those in Louisiana a good look at what birds exist in the State during the winter.

Participation is welcomed for these Baton Rouge birding events. Whether you are an experienced birder or a novice your help is appreciated. These two bird count events are sure to offer great experiences to anyone interested in birds.

On Sunday, December 6th, enjoy the Rural Life Christmas from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., at LSU’s Rural Life Museum. Rural Life Christmas allows visitors to enjoy a Christmas from the past with stories, music, hot cider, and traditional Louisiana fare of Jambalaya and Gumbo. Rural Life Christmas brings everyone back in time in Baton Rouge.

The museum also has demonstrations of soap making, candle making and blacksmithing. Santa Claus is called Papa Noel at the Rural Life Museum and is sure to please the children of Baton Rouge LA. There are two exhibits that are permanent at the Baton Rouge museum, Grounds for Greatness: Louisiana and the Nation, and Experiencing Louisiana: Discovering the Soul of America. Just about anything you would like to learn about Louisiana can be discovered at the museum, located at 660 North 4th Street in Baton Rouge.

Safari Nights is happening at the Baton Rouge Zoo on Friday and Saturday nights, allowing visitors to spend the night and see what happens in the zoo at night this event takes place from 6:30 pm to 9:30 am. Saturday is a great day to go shopping in Baton Rouge with the Red Stick Farmers Market and the Main Street Market offering great local ware and fare. There is also Science Saturday taking place at the Highland Road Park Observatory for children ages 8-12.
