At 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 28th, come to the Manship Theatre at 100 Lafayette Street in Baton Rouge Louisiana, where “Aloha Y’all” will be taking place.  The mission of “Aloha Y’all” is to raise funds for a wheelchair lift van for Gulf Coast Teaching Family Services (GCTFS).  GCTFS is a Louisiana non-profit whose mission is to provide comprehensive human service programs for Louisiana citizens, children and adults, with various physical and mental challenges, including those labeled mentally retarded; developmentally disabled; brain injured; delinquent; emotionally disturbed; and mentally ill.

Aloha Y’all” will feature Hawaii’s number one band, HAPAHAPA is visiting Louisiana for the first time, bringing its Aloha spirit to a wonderful cause.  LSU head baseball coach Paul Mainieri will be the evening’s host and cocktails and great food will be served before the concert.   Save Thursday night to enjoy great food, drink and company and enjoy the Hawaiian sounds of HAPA.  Tickets are $99 and are tax deductible. Support Youth Causes, Attend “A Celebration of Food and Wine,” in Baton Rouge Thursday, August 28th

The Baton Rouge Epicurean Society is putting on “A Celebration of Food and Wine” Thursday, August 25th, at the Marriott Hotel, 5500 Hilton Avenue, Baton Rouge, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.  All proceeds from the event will go to youth causes, benefitting such causes as Smart Bodies, 4-H ’The Power of Youth,’ ProStart and Epicurean Scholarship funding.

Gourmet groceries and food from Baton Rouge restaurants will be offered while some of the best chefs from around Baton Rouge prepare delicacies, all of which can be complimented by over 150 wines.  There will be a silent auction and door prizes as well.  The cost for tickets will be $75 in advance or $85 at the door. Catch LSU Tigers Kicking Off the Soccer Season Today, Baton Rouge LA

Soccer season kicks off today at LSU.  The Tigers, SEC West champions, are back in the game and prepared to uphold their title.  Today at 7 p.m. the Tigers will face South Alabama at the LSU Soccer Complex, which is expected to be a packed house.  All expectations are for the Tigers to complete another winning season this Fall.   The Tigers will have their second game Monday night in a match against the BYU Cougars at 7 p.m. at the LSU Soccer Complex.

Annual Compost Bin Sale in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Saturday July 19th

On Saturday, July 19th backyard compost bins will again be on sale. The bins typically retail for $100 and will be available for $30. The compost bins will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis and will be available for sale from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. A total of 1,200 bins will be available for sale at the Louisiana Department of Insurance, Receivership Office, located at 6945 Florida Boulevard in Baton Rouge.

By purchasing one of the compost bins you will be doing your part toward the environment by saving resources and landfill space. Art Melt to begin Saturday, July 11, Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Art Melt is a combination of fine art, live music, dance performances and food, its goal being to give exposure to the arts for all ages as a fun, enjoyable experience. Art Melt consists of art being displayed inside the Shaw Center as well as an art market, outdoor music and dance performances, and a variety of food available. Among the dance performances the LSU Tap Ensemble, the Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre and the Playmakers Theater Group are slated to appear along with other groups.

Art Melt has evolved into one of the premiere art shows in Louisiana and is not to be missed. The 5th Annual Art Melt will take place this Friday, July 11th, from 6:30 until 10:00 p.m. at the Shaw Center for the Arts in Downtown Baton Rouge. Art Melt is free to the public and open to all ages. Proceeds from the event will go to the Shaw Center for the Arts and the Manship Theatre.

The Louisiana Art & Science Museum in Baton Rouge has been hosting an exhibit on Jim Henson and the creative world he created since March 29. The exhibit runs through June 22 and is well worth a visit. The exhibit contains over 100 pieces of art, from sketches to puppets, and gives people a glimpse of Jim Henson’s creative genius. Jim Henson was a creative force and developed characters from Sesame Street to the Muppets.

Few people have not been touched by Jim Henson’s work. Head to the Louisiana Art & Science Museum by June 22nd to learn a little more about the man behind the puppets.

4th Annual Bloomsday Baton Rouge, Monday June 16

Bloomsday occurs on June 16 and is is an annual commemoration celebrating the life of Irish writer James Joyce and reliving the events in his novel Ulysses, all of which took place on the same day in Dublin in 1904.  The name of the event (holiday in Ireland) comes from Leopold Bloom, the pro-tagonist of Ulysses.  The date of the event, June 16, was the date that Joyce and Nora Barnacle walked to Ringsend, a village in Dublin.  This marked the first outing for joyce and his wife-to-be.

The 4th Annual Bloomsday brings a bit of Ireland to Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  Bloomsday is complete with readings from James Joyce, music, toasts, food and fun.  Enjoy a little bit of Ireland in Baton Rouge and attend BloomsdayBloomsday is hosted by the Baton Rouge Irish Club, (225) 924-6437.

LSU Tigers to play this weekend in Baton Rouge LA

The best-of-three series is slated to begin this Saturday against UC Irvine. LSU is the national number 7 seed and captured its regional title with an 11-4 victory over Southern Miss Sunday. The Tigers have won 23 straight games, setting an SEC record. This season they are 46-16-1. The Tigers are opening a new facility next year and this weekend’s games will be the last at LSU’s Alex Box Stadium.
