New LSU Mascot Could Come from Indiana

Mike the Tiger is a long-standing tradition at LSU, and it is tradition that he be a live mascot for LSU. After the latest Mike the Tiger died a few months ago, LSU officials began the search for a new mascot. Now, one might have been found at an Indiana rescue facility. The Advocate reports on the next possible live mascot for LSU:

Great Cats of Indiana confirmed Monday the nonprofit, large-animal rescue facility intends to send a Bengal tiger to LSU soon.

“Yes, it’s true,” said Rob Craig, Great Cats executive director. “We have talked with LSU, and we anticipate we’re sending a tiger there.”

While PETA protests the use of a live mascot at LSU, officials insist that Mike the Tiger is always treated well.

Pitbull Regulation Expanded in East Baton Rouge Parish

One of the proposed ordinances before the Metro Council is Mike Walker’s proposal to target pitbulls in East Baton Rouge Parish. The rules are aimed to keep others safe from bites, requiring warning signs to be posted on properties and pitbulls to be muzzled. However, these measures have garnered protest. The Advocate reports on how Walker is changing the ordinance to make it more palatable:

“The ultimate object of all this is to get at least seven council
votes for a stronger law. Well, I can’t do that if I stay
breed-specific. Reality sets in,” he said. …

Instead of targeting pit
bulls, Walker said, he wants the regulations to apply to any breed of
dog that bites someone or is deemed a dangerous or vicious dog due to
behavioral problems.
